'Infinite definition' Mirrors, steel, Festuca glauca grass
Lalitte Stolper, who works and lives in Paris has been using projections and reflections in many recent large commissions. For the Meadow Gallery she invites the viewer to step into a complex visual game. Cutting across one of the meadow’s paths, a line of festuca grass (an alien species different in colour and texture to the local grass) is both interrupted and extended to infinity by two large vertical mirrors, thus creating an endless boundary line. The viewer is projected into a virtual landscape created by the infinite repetition of an enclosed space. Pertaining to the theory of the Sublime, this evokes the complex pleasures of a loss of control, as well as the thrill or terror of facing infinity.
