Vishnu form, 2004, black granite Another work that has resided in Cox’s studio for 15 years awaiting its time now emerges on a base of local dhustone. Cox was particularly interested in the form of the reverse side of carved Indian idols, which he sees as having more sculptural power than the often over-decorated obverse. This sculpture presents a form with effectively two backs, the opposite of a Janus figure.
