Franz West was born in Vienna in 1947 where he still lives and works. He represented Austria at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and among many international exhibitions has had a one person show in London at the Whitechapel in 2003.

Neither abstract nor figurative, his sculpture/objects target the unconscious and aim to unearth primal images.
2 Larven was inspired to him by the vision, early in the morning of shapes on his duvet. The ghostly forms seem to have just escaped from that elusive space between reality and the depth of the unconscious.
